Buenos Aires Head vows to prevent city from becoming 'worst part of metropolitan area'

Head of the Buenos Aires Government, Jorge Macri, stated that he "will not allow" the city to "become the worst part of the metropolitan area." In an interview with Radio Rivadavia, he added that his goal is to "return the city to normality" where the law is respected. "I will not allow the city to become the worst part of the metropolitan area. That is not the lifestyle we, porteños, like to live. I have to recover a normal city, where the law is respected, where there are no occupations, and if you have your dog, you pick up what it leaves on the street and if someone honks at you, don't open your car door and stick your nose in anywhere," Macri detailed. In the same vein, he reiterated that during his term, the most important task is to carry out a plan to "recover" normality and stop "naturalizing that everything is getting worse." "I don't know why it wasn't done. The 570 properties returned are worth over 300 million dollars to the private sector. That is returning in value the taxes you pay, that is the work of the state," he stated. To conclude, he criticized previous administrations, especially that of former city legislator Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, and claimed that the policy carried out regarding housing and habitat "did not work" because "millions of pesos" were invested and "the urbanization system failed." "When I return real estate, I am not returning it to large entrepreneurs, it is middle-class people who see that their grandmother's house was occupied. Today we return it because, in addition to the right of ownership, when something is occupied it is a stain of evil in the neighborhood and everything worst appears: drug trafficking, prostitution, thieves and those who harass girls when they leave school. I have to recover a normal city, where the law is respected," he concluded.
